New Tax Rules Calculator
See what the Budget did to your plan.

The 2026-27 Budget measures are law. This runs your numbers under the enacted rules and under the rules before Budget night, and shows the difference this year, next year and across your plan.

The two that change your pay: a $1,000 work deduction you can claim without receipts from 2026-27, and a $250 Working Australians Tax Offset from 2027-28. Enter your salary to see both on your own numbers.

The Budget's property changes, to capital gains tax and negative gearing, are not in this comparison yet. If you own an investment property, the full calculator models your property under the rules as they stand today.

What the comparison shows

Tax in 2026-27 with the instant deduction, tax in 2027-28 with the deduction and the offset stacked, and the same two numbers as they would have been under the old rules. Below that, the whole-plan view: the total tax difference across your projection, what it becomes once it compounds in your investments, and whether it moves your FIRE age. Every figure is computed by the projection engine for each financial year; nothing here is a rule of thumb.

What it deliberately leaves out

The bracket cut from 16% to 15% (and 14% from 2027-28) was legislated in 2025, so it sits on both sides of the comparison. The rental loss and capital gains changes start in 2027-28 and depend on what you own and when you sell, so they show up in the full calculator on your own plan rather than here.

Why a few hundred dollars matters

On a pay packet the change is modest: about $320 a year in the 30% bracket, rising once the offset stacks on top from 2027-28. Invested rather than spent, it compounds for as long as your plan runs, which is why the result is shown as a shift in your FIRE date as well as dollars of tax. The difference is not the point. Seeing it on your own plan, and then seeing what a larger change does, is.
