More accurate investment property tax, mortgage offset entry, and safer partner toggling
A quick rundown of what has landed across the last couple of releases.
Investment property tax, modelled accurately
We identified an issue in how investment property tax was calculated and corrected it. Rental income is now taxed, losses are priced at your real progressive rate rather than a flat one, and a property that turns profitable over time now adds to your tax the way it actually would. For most property scenarios, projected numbers come down a little as a result. It remains a long-horizon planning estimate rather than a tax return – depreciation and capital gains tax on sale still aren't modelled yet.
Enter your mortgage offset balance directly
If you have an offset account against a mortgage, you can now enter its current balance directly on the mortgage card in Property & Debt, and it feeds straight into the interest calculation.
Partner toggling is now fully reversible
Toggling your partner off and back on now round-trips cleanly – income, super, salary sacrifice, investments, date of birth and target retirement age all come back exactly as they were, and toggling off no longer risks blocking your projection.
Smaller fixes
- Superannuation caps corrected for FY2026-27 – the concessional cap now correctly shows $32,500, and the non-concessional cap shows $130,000 (always 4x the concessional cap) and indexes correctly in future years.
- Investment properties owned outright could get stuck with a "Mortgage status is required" error. Fixed.
- Focus scroll jump – tabbing to a lower field in the input panel could leave the panel's scroll stuck. Fixed.
Coming soon: negative gearing changes
The Australian Government's negative gearing changes have now passed into law and take effect 1 July 2027. We'll be building this into the calculator soon so your projections reflect the new rules.
Known issues
- Journey's drift comparison is temporarily disabled while we fix an accuracy issue with how it calculates your plan figure – a "being refined" note stands in for now.
- Scenarios – repeatedly switching browser tabs mid-projection can occasionally trigger a "Save failed" error. Refreshing the page recovers your last saved scenario. A fix is coming in the next few days.
