The Workspace – GetFired grows up

·4 min read

This is the biggest release since launch – by a very long way. The calculator you've been using is now the Workspace: one place that knows where you are, what you plan to do next, and how you are tracking against that plan over time. This lays the groundwork for delivery of the entire GetFired vision: to help Australians take control of their financial future, enabling them to choose how much (or little) they want to work, so they can focus on the things in life that matter to them. This is what the freedom in FIRE is all about.

Current Position and Your Plan

The Workspace splits your model into two ideas that were always tangled together before:

  • Current Position – where you stand today: income, expenses, super, property, investments, liabilities. Your baseline truth.
  • Your Plan – what you intend to do next: planned actions like a windfall, one-off expenses, or a loan increase, each placed in a specific financial year and actually evaluated by the projection engine, not just written down. More planned action types are on the way.

Change your Current Position and everything flows through. Add an action to Your Plan and the projection, milestones, and FIRE date move with it.

Your journey, tracked over time

Premium members get the FIRE Journey view: progress snapshots at the moments that matter, so the question shifts from "what does the model say?" to "how am I actually tracking against it?". This release lays the ledger foundations that will carry your whole journey – drift between plan and reality included.

Explainability and transparency

The Workspace is designed to be explainable: we've introduced the Projection Inspector, which gives you insight into key figures and how they're calculated, including the inputs and assumptions that drive them. This is the first step towards full transparency of the engine, and we will be progressively adding more explainability over time.

New data model enabling high-fidelity projections

This is the quiet headline of the release. The Workspace is built on a new data model designed for high-fidelity projections: multiple income streams per person (day job and side hustle, PAYG, self-employed, dividend income, and more), detailed investments and liabilities, and growth or depreciation across every asset you own. It's not finished – but all the building blocks are now in place, and everything on the roadmap (scenario comparison, drift tracking, richer planned actions, and drawdown modelling) builds on this foundation rather than waiting on another rewrite.

Share Portfolio with live prices

Enter your holdings as shares, not dollar values – the Workspace fetches live prices and revalues your portfolio. Non-AUD listings are labelled with their actual currency rather than pretending everything is Australian dollars (automatic conversion is coming; honesty ships first). You can now specify income yield and franking rate on your shares, and the engine will calculate the tax and cashflow impact of your portfolio.

New financial year, new tax rates

The FY2026-27 tax cut is now in the engine: the bracket two rate ($18,201 – $45,000) drops from 16% to 15% this FY, and again to 14% in FY2027-28. If the proposed CGT and negative gearing changes land, we're poised to update the engine as soon as the law is final. Updates to the maximum super contribution base and the full Division 296 calculation are coming shortly.

Scenarios – old and new

For existing users, your saved scenarios are all still here. Load any of them from the Scenarios menu (or via Account → Data) and it will load as your Current Position and Your Plan – the same load-and-go behaviour you were familiar with, in the new model. Nothing you saved is lost.

Scenario comparison – "what-ifs" evaluated side by side against Your Plan – is being rebuilt properly for the new model and returns soon. In the meantime, try a change directly in Your Plan and undo it: unlike before, those changes are genuinely evaluated.

Early Bird pricing

The Founding Member cohort is now closed (founders: your rate stays locked, as promised, thanks for being part of the journey!). New Premium members join at Early Bird pricing – $12/month or $99/year – locked in for as long as you remain a member (CPI increases only). This is a limited-time offer, and will be retired once the Workspace is fully released.

Not just a bit of polish...

Dozens of fixes and refinements shipped alongside: projection enhancements, a new cashflow view, a smarter mobile experience (including full-canvas editors), many UX improvements, and a raft of accessibility fixes.

As always: GetFired provides planning estimates and education, not personal financial advice.
